Jules Byrd

Technical Director

After leaving school and working in the building supplies industry, I took up an excellent opportunity to work abroad and spent three years in construction in Spain, then moved to the USA where I worked for an outdoor outfitter company in Colorado. Here my duties took me into a responsible role in health and safety matters for the first time. After training and experience working as a back-country guide undertaking both summer and winter guiding trips, I took charge of guide training and monitoring relating to customer health and safety and all the paperwork involved including such things as writing policy documents and liability release forms. Afterwards I returned to the UK where I took up employment in the roofing industry.

I started “on the tools” as a roofing maintenance operative, driving a MEWP (cherry-picker) and carrying out roofing maintenance repairs and services all over the UK. After a short period, I progressed to Roofing Contracts Manager and was responsible for running the maintenance fleet, as well as running from start to finish, various re-roofing contracts on a national basis. At one point I was asked to also take on the role of Health and Safety Officer for the company and was in charge of all matters pertaining to that role, specialising in construction and roofing health and safety.
I undertook various training courses and started a course of continual professional development in health and safety, and when on 1st September 2005 the company split into a group of four companies I was appointed as director of the health and safety company, which was wholly owned by the parent company of the group, Survey & Construction Ltd
Survey & Construction Safety Ltd. changed its name in September 2008 to In-Line Safety Ltd. and has dramatically expanded from attending to the requirements of the three roofing companies (also created when the new group of companies was formed) which it still does, to also developing its own base of well-known blue-chip clients  including high street retail names, pub and club chains, NHS Trusts, housing associations, government departments (national and local), and independent contractors and trading companies both small and large.

On 29th February 2014 In-Line Safety underwent a management buy-out from its parent company, and became wholly independent.

I act as Technical Director overseeing all other staff of health and safety officers and am responsible for all aspects of ensuring speedy, accurate and realistic health and safety solutions for our wide range of clients. Our services include construction sites health and safety, asbestos surveys, sampling and reporting, fire risk assessment and reporting, design, fitting and certification of roof-top safety systems, assisting clients with health and safety policies, risk and COSHH assessments, method statements and contractor accreditation schemes, health and safety management and commitment / leadership schemes, health and safety training, CDM assistance duties, health and safety audits and reviews, and accident investigations, as well as advice on all matters pertaining to health and safety, including recommendations to third parties where matters fall outside of our experience and expertise.
